Mark Rothko - No. 3 (1949)

I’ll never forget the first time I saw a Rothko painting in person. What an completely overwhelming experience it was to see something I’d seen in print dozens of time in all of it’s over-sized brillance. How something with two boxes of color is able to elicit such emotion was surprising to say the least.
